About Me

blog.jpg

It’s my final year at the University of Oregon. Soon it will be time to fly the coop and return to my beloved Portland, Oregon. Game plan: Graduate. Move. Find a brilliant job. Delight in the blossoming of the season.

My name is Emily Tormey, and I’m a senior completing my majors in Advertising and Public Relations in the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication. I finished my Business minor last year; I’m currently working on my thesis for the Honors College. Although my career goals are still changing, rendered malleable by the incredible wealth of knowledge and different perspectives I encounter nearly daily, I am aiming towards a career in event design, coordination, and planning. I’d ultimately love to go into consulting once I’ve gained enough experience to have some authority on it. I want to work with non-profit organizations on fundraising events, as well as corporate events such as trade shows, product launches, celebrations, etc.

I currently live in Eugene, Oregon but am originally from Portland, Oregon where my family lives. I love music, adventures, good food, and spending time with close friends. I value honesty, quirkiness, empathy, intelligence, humor, sincerity, and compassion.

I’ve mixed concrete by hand in Mexico, played trombone while marching down city streets, solemnly buried dead mice in my parents’ backyard, and learned how to drive a tractor through an old cherry orchard.

My outlook on life, in many ways, can be summed up as follows:

”To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch…to know even one life has breatherd easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!” - Emerson

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Cheers to this definition of success; may I never lose sight of it.

My best friend from college comes from Eugene (and lives there still, I think). I enjoyed my visit there a few years ago. It’s a lovely town. Good luck with your career!
